Product Overview

Translucent concrete (also known as light-transmitting concrete) is a concrete-based building material with light-transmitting properties due to embedded optical elements, usually optical fibers. Light is transmitted through the stone from one end to the other. Therefore, the fiber optic must run through the entire object. This results in a specific light pattern on the other side of the surface, depending on the structure of the optical fiber. Shadows cast on one side appear as contours through the material.

Translucent concrete can be used for both interior and exterior walls. When sunlight hits the concrete at a lower angle, the light intensity is higher, giving it a shiny appearance at sunset, while during the day it looks like a normal concrete block. It can be used as load-bearing walls, paving blocks, partition walls, and also in the manufacture of furniture and decorative fixtures.

Applications

1. Architectural Excellence

Facades: Solar-responsive cladding for smart buildings.

Interior Walls: Backlit partitions in luxury hotels.

Flooring: LED-embedded walkways with 50kN/m² load capacity.

2. Sustainable Landscapes

Water Features: Submersible panels for illuminated pools.

Pavilions: Solar-charged glow effects for parks.

3.Flooring and luminous blocks

Translucent concrete is also used for flooring and glowing blocks in public areas such as parks, sidewalks and open spaces. These blocks provide illumination at night, enhancing both safety and aesthetics. On sidewalks, illuminated bricks also improve visibility and safety for pedestrians.

4.Facades and interior partitions

One of the most common uses of translucent concrete is the construction of facades and interior partitions. Walls made from this material act as normal walls during the day, but at night, when illuminated by natural or artificial light, they transform into gleaming buildings. This application is particularly effective in commercial buildings, hotels and office spaces, where it can significantly enhance visual appeal.

5.Natural Lighting and Energy Efficiency

Translucent concrete allows natural light to penetrate the building, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. When used in ceilings or transparent walls, sunlight can illuminate the interior, making this material a sustainable choice for green building and energy efficiency projects.

FAQ

Q:Is it possible to customize translucent patterns or colors?

A:Highly customized design is supported:

Patterns: Embedded with corporate logo, geometric shapes or natural textures through CNC arrangement of light guide materials.

Color: Light guide material can be matched with RGB LED light source for dynamic color change (IP68 waterproof).

Finish: Polished, sandblasted, exposed aggregate and other finishes are available.

Q:Does the installation of light-transmitting concrete require special techniques?

A:The installation process of translucent concrete is similar to that of traditional concrete, but the following points should be noted:

Cutting: Use diamond saw blades to avoid damaging the light-conducting material.

Fixing: Use a concealed anchor bolt system (e.g. Hilti HVU) to ensure the panels are level.

Joint treatment: Use light transmission compatible epoxy caulk (e.g. Sikadur-52).

TIP: Recommended to be carried out by a trained team of builders, we offer free installation guides and on-site support!
